Simba

It’s very interesting that we feel sad when someone or something you love is taken away from you, and the only way to get away from it is… there is no way lol.

So my lil brother got a cat, Simba, in our home 2 years ago. My mother was completely against it because she hates animals “as pets”. But despite all this, my lil bro got this guy, Simba, into our house. After a few months, my mother just started treating Simba like her own son. Mother being mother, she used to talk to Simba like a baby, lol.

After a year or so, Simba got sick and was diagnosed with UTI. We got him into treatment, and my mother took care of the whole treatment and his meds. She literally pulled Simba out of death.

A few months later, when my mom was not at home and was staying with him at our second house, one night my father forgot to properly lock the window, and Simba went out. We searched every single corner of our colony, but we never found Simba.

It’s been almost two months now, and we don’t have a single lead on Simba. My mother is still recovering from that grief. Me, on the other hand, am just trying to pretend like “yeah, it’s a very normal thing” because I just don’t want to get emotional in front of my mom. If I do, she’ll just go deeper into that emotional rabbit hole.

So I keep telling her, “Chill, Mom. Cats are predators. Survival is in their DNA, and they can adapt to any environment” which gives her a little bit of relief. But you cannot run from “sad emotional memories,” so it will take time for sure for her to recover. But I know she’s strong. She has seen more sad things than this one. It’s all about time.
